Virtuoso Doors needed a system that would allow them to have full control over the technical side of the manufacturing process. Here I created an interface from the ground up that encompasses all of the needs of managing the manufacturing of composite doors. It was known as being at the bleeding edge of the fenestration industry due to it's fast performance and modern layout.

Tech Spec

This system, codenamed 'Highlander', was useful for everything from live tracking of barcode scans, to exporting reports on various types of doors, and adding scans at scanpoints. It allowed for accountability of which operator was scanning at each scanpoint through the use of a unique 4-digit login function.

Scanpoints were set up to get the most out of each section of the manufacturing line. Depending on the use case, they could show important data such as the type of door lock being used, or the precise measurements to know what to cut the frame to.

Each report was handcrafted to display the most useful information to each area of the business. Some of them showed live data visualisations that allowed for quick information at a glance. The reports could also be exported to other applications such as excel.
Some examples of the key features include:

  • Mobile-first layouts for use on Zebra barcode devices for locating and scanning doors to a van.
  • Automated reports sent out at specific intervals throughout the day via email.
  • JIT (Just-in-time) Stations to keep the flow of the manufacturing line.
  • Hourly targets updated live on a fullscreen view, for viewing during SIM meetings.
  • Added quality checks at various points of the manufacturing process through the use of on-screen question popups.
  • Capturing quality images through a unique webcam interface, saving high-resolution images to the job.
